Hello, Artisan Grae Guests! Aly, here. If you’re someone who enjoys receiving in-salon lightening services, such as classic foil highlights, hand painted balayage, lived-in foilayage, or a bleach and tone, you know the professional quality of the lightener matters, big time!

Our lighter selections play a huge role in preserving the integrity of the hair, giving us the proper boost needed inorder to achieve our desired result, and in ensuring that it’s an all-in-all, safe process. Did you know that some lighteners are never meant to touch the skin? Did you know that some lighteners contain ingredients that you may have sensitivities to, such as wheat proteins? It’s so important to have a thorough consultation with your stylist, prior to receiving any type of chemical service, but here are a few fun nuggets of information, regarding the lighteners that we carry and use, here at Artisan Grae.

Lighteners are not one-size-fits all, which is why we carry four options within our salon, at all times. Proper options means being able to offer proper services, so let’s get to know the professional products that make up our top shelf, lightner-line-up.

1. UB Freedom Blonde, by Keune Hair Cosmetics

Freedom Blonde Lightener is a clay based lightener that was designed to be used for free-hand application services, such as Balayage, Ombre, and Brosse.

This lightner is designed to be applied off-scalp, meaning it’s not meant to be applied in ways that will allow the lightner to touch the skin. Freedom blonde mixed with a thicker consistency due to being a clay-based lightener. A clay-based lightener is an important staple for free-hand applications, as the texture and consistency will help produce much cleaner, and more controllable results. It goes on smooth and thick, similar to the consistency of buttercream icing, and it doesn’t quickly dry out. This allows for an open-air process, and gives the lightener the opportunity to remain effective for the time needed to lift the hair to the proper level, which generally results in a sun-kissed highlighted look.

2. UB Magic Blonde, by Keune Hair Cosmetics

Magic Blonde Lightener can be used for both on and off-scalp applications, ranging from classing foil highlighting services, to modern foilayage applications, to universal lightening for pre-creative color applications, to platinum cards and bleach and tones. This lightener tends to be my go-to for clients with medium darkness to light hair, who are looking to achieve a light to very light result.

Another important point of difference with this lightener is that it’s been formulated with silk-proteins, making it a great option for clients who need to use products that are gluten-free.

3. UB Cream Blonde, by Keune Hair Cosmetics

Cream Blonde Lightener can be used for both on and off-scalp applications, but is generally gentler on the scalp than Magic Blonde. If you’re a client who loves bleach and tones, or universal lightening for creative color application services (maintenance appointments every 4 weeks), and you don’t have gluten sensitivities, this is likely the best lightener option for your needs.

*Formulated with Keune’s Integrated Bond Fuser Technology.

4. UB Power Blonde, by Keune Hair Cosmetics

Power Blonde Lightener is the powerhouse option that all stylists are thankful to have within their arsenal, specifically for clients who have low porosity, very dark, or very coarse hair. This is the lightener your stylist will choose, if your lightening process tends to get “stuck” in the rusty orange stage, and you’re in need of an extra boost to break through these more stubborn red-orange undertones.

*Power Blonde still leaves the hair in beautiful condition, thanks to the addition of Keune’s Integrated Bond Fuser Technology.

A final, but noteworthy point to mention is that all of our Keune Lighteners have been expertly designed and formulated to work without the application of additional heat. This means that, when you visit our salon, you will never be put under a dryer during any of your lightning services. We feel this provides a more comfortable guest experience for you, and with these professional products, provides a gentler option for your hair.

All of our European-Made Keune products are 100% Cruelty-Free.

FAQ’s:

Q:  Will highlights, balayage, foilayage, or universal lightening using hair bleach, ruin my hair?

A:  Lightening services should always be performed by a licensed professional. Prior to receiving any chemical service, it’s important to receive a thorough consultation from your stylist. During this consultation, your stylist will have the opportunity to discuss your hair history, your hair concerns, product recommendations, treatment recommendations, they may conduct a strand test, a porosity test, and check your elasticity. They will be able to identify your current level, as well as your desired level, and should be able to tell you if the desired result is realistic, depending on the above factors. With top shelf, professional lighteners, Artisan Grae’s licensed and skilled stylists, and a tool kit of high quality Keune after-care products, your hair should remain strong, healthy, and gorgeous!

Q:  Is there anything special I should do to prepare my scalp, prior to receiving an on-scalp bleach application?

A:

Personally, I like to suggest that a client arrives at the salon for their on-scalp lightening service with at least 2 day-old hair. Ideally, I suggest not washing your hair for 4-5 days, if you can manage it. This period of not washing will allow for additional oil production and moisturizing of that scalp, which tends to feel less irritated, especially for those with sensitive skin. If you know that you have sensitivities to on-scalp hair bleach, ask your stylist for application options that would avoid putting the lightener in direct contact with your skin, but can still provide you with similar results.

If you have any questions or concerns about your scalp and hair care routine, or if you would like to book an appointment with us for your next lightening service, please feel free to reach out to our stylist desk.
